About Apollo:
In ancient Greece, Apollo was one of the twelve gods and goddesses of the Olympian pantheon. He was the son of Zeus and Leto, and twin brother to Artemis, goddess of the hunt and the moon. In later mythology, he became identified with Helios, the sun, who was driven across the sky in a golden chariot. Apollo enjoyed eternal youth, beauty, and good health. Apollo was the patron god of the arts, music, poetry, archery, prophecy and natural healing. The Muses were attendants to Apollo. Temples and shrines were erected in honor of Apollo throughout the ancient world. Most famous of these sacred sites were the isle of Delos, Apollo’s birthplace; Delphi, near Mt. Parnassos, famous for its oracle; and the Asclepion, on the isle of Kos where Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, founded the western world’s first medical school. Asclepion was named for Asclepius, the son of Apollo, who was renowned for his knowledge and expertise in natural medicine, and later was worshipped as a god himself. It is the serpents of Asclepius that wrap around the caduceus, the staff of Hermes, which has become the symbol of medicine in modern times. The bowl of Hygeia, depicted here, which has become the symbol of pharmacy, also bears Asclepius’ serpents. The Hippocratic Oath, the oath taken by all doctors even to this day, is an oath sworn to Apollo the Physician, and to Asclepius and to Hygeia, the goddess of Health, daughter of Asclepius. In today’s world, conventional medicine has abandoned many of the ideals which are spoken of in this oath, as well as many of the natural medicines that are found in the plant kingdom. These healing herbs can provide much relief for many common ailments faced by people today, as they did in the ancient world. They can do so very effectively, affordably and with few side effects. Thus, it is in the spirit of Apollo that these botanical remedies are offered to you as Apollo Herbs®. ©2007-2008 by Michael S. Ford. All rights reserved. Apollo Herbs® is a registered trademark.
